THE ART OF BAKING-THE START OF MY JOURNEY

THE ART OF BAKING: A CREATIVE JOURNEY

I first started baking during early stages of lockdown, as a way of expressing myself. Because of the pandemic, most of my hobbies were put on hold and I thought why not learn a new skill. My baking journey started on Youtube while watching cooking videos. I was amazed at how many things a person could make by learning one skill. No matter how many years you've been baking or how much you've learnt, there's always room to improve and learn more.

One day after watching enough Youtube videos, I decided to try baking for myself. I figured I'd start with a simple dish, chocolate chip cookies. When I made cookies for the first time it didn't go as planned. When I made the first batch of cookies, the consistency wasn't right and the second time I ended up burning the cookies, but the third time it came out like it should have.  I guess you could say third times the charm. I was about to stop baking after the second batch, since I had a short attention span back then. But when the cookies came out right, there was a moment of joy I felt that kept me interested.

I started researching more things I could bake and came across plenty of different options, some tough and some easy. I chose to start with the easier recipes like brownies, muffins, and cookies. Next, I wanted to learn to bake a dessert that I enjoy now, cinnamon rolls. I still don't quite have the hang of this but it comes out pretty well around 80% of the time. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try making something savoury for once, so I tried my hand at bread. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, I used it for a few days instead of store bought bread.

I'm excited to see all the new things I learn and where this journey takes me.
